Choosing the Thickness of Laminating Pouches

A pouch laminator can help to make creating professional signs very easy and very professional looking. The steps involved in protecting your documents or creating your signs are as follows…place the material or document you want laminated into your laminating pouches, then place them into the carrier and put it into the laminator. The one important thing that you need to remember is what size and thickness of pouches you are going to need.

The first thickness out of five to choose from are the 1.5mil. These are the thinnest laminating pouches available, and it is important to not that most of the machines do not support this thickness. This thickness is going to provide minimal protection but is still easy to bend and crease.

The second thickness available is 3.1mil. This size is often the size that is used for big documents. This thickness will protect your laminating pouches, but this size can still flex and curl.

The 5mil is a thin pouch that works very well for laminating small documents. This is a good size for creating a sturdy feeling document without having to pay the premium price.

The 7mil pouch will provide some more weight to your documents. A lot of times this thickness is used to laminate business cards and name badges.

Finally, the 10mil thickness is the thickest size available, this size offers a very rigid feel that is ideal for presentation material and professional signs.

More than likely you will be using the 3.1mil thickness because it provides a good amount of protection for larger documents, and the laminating pouches won’t put much of a dent in your pocket book. You won’t really have to worry if you choose the wrong thickness, as it won’t be detrimental to the appearance of your document, however, it is good to know what size will provide the best protection for your important documents, whether they are large or small.
